We currently are seeking applicants to join our Project HOPE team in the Albany office. These positions will provide comprehensive, culturally competent prevention interventions with men who have sex with men (MSM).

Our opportunities include:

1 position for Prevention Intervention Specialist

1 position for Test Counselor

 

Prevention Intervention Specialist

will develop and provide comprehensive group and individual level behavior change interventions.

Major activities of the position include:

  • Observe and abide by the HIV Confidentiality Law.
  • Work as a member of the Project HOPE team to coordinate HIV/syphilis testing and STI/hepatitis screening services.
  • Conduct confidential HIV/syphilis testing and STI screening in venues serving targeted community according to NYS DOH guidelines.  Conduct Hepatitis C screening per guidelines.  Conduct comprehensive pre and post test counseling and/or individual level risk reduction counseling sessions to high-risk individuals within the designated communities and settings.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with New York state regulations and agency protocols.  Maintain documentation and statistics on activities to comply with reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage hard-to-reach populations including enhanced outreach, health communication and individual level interventions.
  • Network with community service providers and businesses serving the target population to increase accessibility of testing services, and maintain and implement effective referral mechanisms.

Test Counselor

will develop and implement an HIV counseling and testing, STI/hepatitis screening and referral program guidelines.

Major activities of the position include:Observe and abide by the HIV Confidentiality Law.

  • Conduct confidential HIV/syphilis testing and STI screening, as applicable, in venues serving targeted communities according to NYS DOH guidelines. 
  • Conduct Hepatitis C screening per guidelines. 
  • Conduct comprehensive pre and post test counseling and/or individual level risk reduction counseling sessions to high-risk individuals within the designated communities and settings.  Provide referrals, and follow up as applicable, to address identified needs and/or in accordance with requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with New York state regulations and agency protocols.  Maintain documentation and statistics on activities to comply with reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage hard-to-reach populations including enhanced outreach, health communication and individual level interventions.

Both positions will provide testing services, online interventions, outreach, individualized risk reduction counseling and public awareness campaigns to reduce stigma.

Minimum requirements:

  • Associates degree in Human Services, Sociology or related area; Bachelors degree preferred
  • One year experience working with the target populations
  • Ability to provide HIV, STI, and related information to the target populations
  • Must have valid drivers license and independent means of transportation
  • Must have ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Previous phlebotomy training a plus
